Funeral services were held at 2:30 this afternoon for Mrs. Helen Liggett, well known Inglewood woman, whose death occurred early Saturday morning shortly after she had celebrated her 80th birthday. Mrs. Liggett had been ill for only a few days and died at her home, 4319 W. Hardy St. The funeral was held at the Beaver & Matson Chapel, conducted by Dr. John Matthews, of the Radio Church of the Air to whose weekly services she was accustomed to listen while confined to her home. Raymond Bowers, of Pasadena, a friend of the family sang. Eastern Star services were held at the grave. She was born in Jacksontown, Ohio June 12, 1852 of Scotch ancestry being descended on her father's side from the clan of KERR, followers of William Wallace and on her mother's side through the female line of Stuarts. Her great, great grandparents were killed during the persecution. She referred with pride to the fact that she was the fifth generation in an unbroken line to celebrate her gold wedding anniversary. She was united in marriage in 1872 to Dr. Henry B. Liggett and established their first home on the Western prairies; there to endure the hardship and privation of a young doctor's life. 7 years ago she moved to Inglewood. In spite of her advance age, Mrs. Liggett kept up an active interset in the Ingelwood Woman's Club, and the Happy Hours Club and found time for many quiet philanthropic activities. One of her most recent gifts to charity was an elaborate quilt now on display at Malloy's store where it is to be sold and the money given to welfare work of the Salvation Army. This donation was made on her 80th birthday and she was at work on another when she was stricken. She leaves one son, Guy Liggett of Omaha who reached Inglewood before her death; a sister, Mrs. Frank Kritz and a niece Mrs. CA Acton of Inglewood; a grandaduaghter, Mrs. (sic) Helen Hagey of Cincinnati. Her husband, Dr. Henry Ball Liggett preceded her in death in 1924; her only daughter, Helen Liggett Higby died in 1925 and her oldest son, Byron Wyatt Liggett died in 1930 @ Inglewood California.
